“ I began KYHU (formerly Hungry Headers) to create a symbiotic relationship between a business and delivery service. With KYHU, we take you through the whole process: where to eat, what to order, and how to get it to your door, boat, etc.”
- Katherine Ducharme
Katherine Ducharme, of Marblehead, is changing how delivery services work with restaurants and customers via her company and mobile application KYHU (Keep Your Head Up) formerly Hungry Headers. The company was started in May 2020 as a way to help local Marblehead residents access their favorite local restaurant fare via her delivery service. Due to the pandemic and staff shortages, she felt this was a need in her community that she could fulfill. At the same time, restaurants were experiencing issues with existing delivery services such as DoorDash, UberEats, etc and she felt she could not only help the community and customers, but the restaurants as well. To add to the service she was providing to local Marblehead residents with local establishments, she decided it would be fun to do her favorite donut run, and see if any of her customers would also like her to grab some for them. This was the start to the pop up delivery service provided by KYHU!
Here are three parts to this delivery service that grabbed my attention.
1) 'Symbiotic Relationship' with Restaurants: This is very different from the other existing delivery services that charge restaurants and customers. This is free for restaurants and drive/demand comes from the customer.
2) Social Media/Crowd Source Feed: The KYHU Application is currently beta testing its Feed section. The idea is two fold. First, it provides great information directly from the business that could include daily specials, limited time offers, updates on availability of products, etc. Second, it connects you with your neighbors and who else is ordering in your area. Are you ever not sure where to eat or what to get? This is the application for you!
3) Pop Up Delivery Service: This is by far my favorite part of this application and why I immediately downloaded it. They do special deliveries of niche items/restaurants based on customer demand in an area. Most of the time it takes 5 orders in an area for the 'pop up date' to be set. Currently they partnered with Kanes Donuts and do 'Week of Kanes'. They have a day in Metro West, a day up in Essex County and a couple days in the South Shore. They first set up a special order message, by commenting on the message you initiate an order. Once there are 5, you are confirmed via message of the delivery details. You can also see how many others have ordered, so if you need a couple more to get the pop up set, you can contact friends and neighbors to place orders. This also can open the door to getting your favorite non retail local vendor goods delivered to your door, and also to those around you. That means when a neighbor puts in an order for their favorite treats, you will be notified in case you want to get in on it and make your own order too! Have a favorite vendor you found at a local farmers market but the location isnt convenient for you? This is the answer!!!!
